Extremadura celebrates the 14th International Ornithological Tourism Fair in February 2019
FIO will hold its 14th edition from February 22 to 24, 2019. The Monfragüe National Park is once again a must for professionals and nature lovers.
The International Fair of Ornithological Tourism (or Extremadura Birdwatching Fair) has put Extremadura on the world map of bird watching and has become the second most important event in Europe. It is the dean of the fairs of its specialty in Spain. The fair, organized by Junta de Extremadura, brings together the best of nature tourism and ornithology: specialized companies, tourist destinations, conservation associations, meetings between professionals, a program that combines the business and leisure aspects and, above all, the participation of experts and the public in every activities: technical conferences, photography conferences (PHOTOFIO), guided tours, children’s workshops, etc. All this in Monfragüe, one of the world mecques for bird watching, declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO and the first Starlight destination for astronomical tourism in Extremadura.
FIO is one more tool to consolidate Extremadura as a reference in ornithological tourism, an activity accessible to all and that can be practiced in the countryside and in the city. This initiative includes initiatives such as the Bird Festival ‘Ciudad de Cáceres’ (spring), the Festival de las Grullas (winter) and the Club de Producto Birding in Extremadura, made up of more than 80 members from throughout the region.
Fair schedule: Friday, from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.; Saturday, from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.; and Sunday, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
